Luckily, students with a library card from an Allegheny County library have access to Gale’s suite of educational databases.

Biography in Context

This database contains the life stories of thousands of famous persons and historical figured. It offers full-text biographical articles, images, and magazine articles.

World & U.S. History in Context Databases

In these two databases, find articles, maps, photographs, and audio recordings related to World History and U.S. History. Also includes articles about current national and global issues. 

Opposing Viewpoints In Context

This database offers information on current social issues and debate topics. It provides both the pro/con viewpoints on all topics.

LitFinder

Explore world literature and writers throughout history (ancient to current) with a wealth of literary works, including poems, short stories, speeches, and plays — with plot summaries, what the writing means, pictures, and stories about the authors.  

Research in Context

This database is designed for middle school students and provides articles, videos, and primary source materials for a variety of subjects, including science, social studies, and language arts.  Easy to search and provides citations. 

Student Edition

Designed for high school students, this database provides articles and reference books that cover a wide range of subjects and research topics, ranging from history to literature to political science. 

Contemporary Authors

This database has biographies on more than 120,000 writers.

Greenr

This database offers news, statistics, and commentaries on environmental topics, such as: sustainability, energy systems, healthcare, food, climate change, population, and economic development. 

Academic OneFile

More advanced than some of the other featured databases, this resource offers full-text academic articles on a variety of subjects, including social sciences, technology, medicine, engineering, the arts, literature, and more. Topic Finder and citation tools.
