Upgraded Resource Update: Business Insights Global

Allegheny County library users now have access to Business Insights: Global.  Business Insights: Global is a purchased upgrade to the resource Business Insights: Essentials which was the upgrade to Business and Company Resource Center….confusing huh?

Here’s an explanation: Business Insights: Essentials contains all the content from Business and Company Resource Center, with a modern interface and added functionality. Our library system has Business Insights: Global, which
has all the content of Business Insights: Essentials with added company information from around the world, not just the United States.

If you library individually links to this resource you should update your URL to this: http://www.einetwork.net/ein/galegroup.cfm?db=BIG

Your library should also be receiving some bookmarks to inform patrons about this upgraded resource.

Below are some informational and educational videos that Gale has provided to help introduce you to the basics of using Business Insights: Essentials:

Do Two Searches and Call Me in the Morning

There’s a new POWER Library database that’s worth knowing about.  Recently, the state replaced Consumer Health Complete with Gale’s Health and Wellness Resource Center.

Health & Wellness Resource Center is billed as providing “authoritative information on the full range of health related issues, from current disease and disorder information to in-depth coverage of alternative medical practices.”  The database is more than 75% full text and includes articles from medical journals, general interest resources, and reference works.  There is also a directory for locating health clinics, dialysis centers, and other health-related organizations.  Partnering with Healthology and HealthDay, the database also offers physician-authored articles, videos, and current reports from Consumer Health News.

As a Gale “Resource Center” the interface has some familiar elements, but check out this Tip Sheet for help using the database.

For more details visit the product information page; access a recorded tutorial webinar or guided tutorials for this and other Gale databases.

To your health,

Sarah

Teacher Lesson Plans

Last Monday I did an electronic resources presentation for a group of college and high school students teaching summer enrichment programs.  Since many of them have never taught before they wanted to know where they might find lesson plans they could use.

I knew that some of our databases offered teacher lesson plans I couldn’t name them off the top of my head.  Thanks to a little bit of searching and help from my fellow librarians I was able to provide them with this list of Gale databases that offer lesson plans:

  • U.S. History in Context
  • World History in Context
  • Science in Context
  • Biography in Context

The steps for finding the teacher lesson plans are the same in each database–

  • Click on the Resources tab above the rotating banner.
  • Under the Teachers heading you will see Access FREE Lesson Plans – Click Here

Do you know of any other county-wide databases where teachers can find lesson plans?
