Newsstand News

WOW!! There are some great additions to the Zinio magazine offerings. Titles such as Architectural Digest, Glamour, Bon Appetit, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Wired and more are now available.  New titles will soon be featured on the first few pages of our Zinio magazine collection.

Unfortunately, we are also losing access to a few titles, including Ladies Home Journal and Publisher’s Weekly.  Back issues of all discontinued titles will continue to be available.  If you’d like to see a complete list of all new and discontinued titles, check here.

There are a few other changes as well.  You may have noticed that patrons are now be required to select their home library. New users, as well and patrons with an existing Zinio account, will be prompted to select their home library from a drop-down list.  They will only be asked to do this once.

Perhaps the best news of all is that the process of logging into Zinio promises to be streamlined soon.  There will be a single sign-on rather than the current (somewhat confusing) process that has users registering on both the library and the commercial site. Stay tuned for further updates!

eResource Challenge Lite No. 1

Today is the first of many eResource Challenge Lite questions! Post your answer and/or eResource tips in the comments below and be entered to win a prize! (Comments are moderated, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see your comment right away.)

You can respond to challenges any time you’d like, but if you want to be eligible for a prize your comment must be submitted by the end of the week that the challenge is posted.

Question #1

With holidays fast approaching and plays, pageants, and parties even closer, more and more patrons will be looking for seasonal audio. Many of these patrons will wait to the last minute, such as a panicked elementary school teacher who desperately needs a Christmas sing along CD for a recital tomorrow. The Library is closing in 15 minutes and all of your Library’s seasonal music is checked out. How can you find 5 sing along Christmas songs for your patron with such limited time?

Virtual Tricks and Treats

Happy Halloween!  Here’s hoping that the weather doesn’t get too grim for those who will be out and about this evening, seeking treats and celebrating.

where_the_wild_things_are_by_noeldickover-d31j0iwOf course, weather conditions won’t be a concern for those trying to win treats and prizes in the upcoming eResources Challenge Lite.  And, at the risk of sounding sanctimonious, since knowledge is its own reward everyone will be a winner.

As you may have already heard, starting on Monday, November 3rd we will post a monthly eResource Challenge here.  To participate, all you have to do is complete the challenge and post your answer and/or thoughts on the resources you used in the comments section of the blog post by the end of the week (no costume required).

The week following the challenge the Digital Resources Committee will select a response at random and award a playful, useful, or possibly delicious prize to the author of that response.  Look for a new challenge on the first Monday of each month.

Enjoy,

Lisa (CLP)

p.s. We’re also soliciting suggestions for challenges to pose to the group, so if you have some tricky questions up your sleeve, please share them with anyone on the Digital Resources Committee.

New Find Articles Page

The Digital Resources Committee, formerly EREC, has redesigned the current county databases landing page at articles.einetwork.net .  We hope the page is more user friendly and intuitive for patrons, better designed for mobile devices.

We are looking for your feedback on the redesigned page BEFORE the site goes live.  Please add any feedback and suggestions to the comments section of this blog post.  We are asking for all feedback on or before Friday, November 7th.  Or you can email me at shillingd2@einetwork.net.

Currently the page can only be accessed from within the library.  If you are not in a library this link will not work.
